On Oct. 17, 2019, Prof. Syngcuk Kim from the School of Dental Medicine, Upenn was invited to attend the International Seminar on Endodontics, which was hosted by Assoc. Dean, Prof. Zhi Chen. On behalf of our school, Dean, Prof. Zhuan Bian gave an opening speech to sincerely welcome Prof. Syngcuk Kim.

In the morning, a live broadcast of microscopic apical surgical operation was presented. Dr. Wei Zhang gave a brief introduction of a clinical case. Subsequently, Prof. Rui Zhang did the microscopic apical surgical operation, whose operation process was broadcast to the seminar. During the broadcast, Prof. Syngcuk Kim explained the difficulties and merits involved in this operation one by one.

In the afternoon, eight case reports were made by graduate students from the Department of Endodontics, WHUSS. Prof. Kim praised these presenters for their rare cases, skillful operation, good prognosis and professional reporting skills.

Finally, Prof. Kim was invited to be our professor emeritus, whose certificate was awarded by Dean Zhuan Bian.

As one of the world's top experts in micro root canal surgery. Dr. Kim is mainly engaged in the field of root canal surgery and diagnosis and treatment of pulp diseases. He invented a series of micro root canal surgical instruments, such as the special ultrasonic working tip- KiS system for retrograde root canal preparation.

He published the monograph "Color Atlas of Microsurgery in Endodontics" in 1997 and "Endodontic Microsurgery" in 2018, By so far, he has published more than 200 papers and made more than 400 academic reports in the world, boasting high reputation in the line.
