The Department of Orthodontics (division 2) at Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University is the national key clinical department that carries out advanced orthodontic treatment for patients. There are 18 faculties in the department, including 9 clinicians, who all possess doctoral or master's degree, 8 nurses and a medical technician. The department has 2 master supervisors and a standing member of the orthodontics committee, Chinese Stomatological Association.

The primary job of our department is to treat malocclusion and maxillofacial deformity, thus restoring oral function and augmenting facial aesthetics. Preventive treatment of deciduous dentition and mixed dentition, juvenile orthodontic treatment, surgical-orthodontic therapy, orthodontic-cleft lip and palate therapy, orthodontic-periodontal therapy and OSAHS treatment are put in routine clinical use. The treatment carried out in our department covers the latest orthodontic techniques in the world and every aspects of both classical and contemporary orthodontics—modern standard Edgewise technique, straight wire appliance, lingual appliance, non-bracket invisible appliance, micro-implant anchorage techniques and so on. We have set up adult orthodontic treatment group, working in close association with department of prosthodontics, Implant, Periodontics, TMJ and department of orthopedics, to provide advanced aesthetic orthodontic treatment to adults.

Our department is now supported by 3 projects of National Nature Science Foundation of China and some other provincial research projects to achieve outstanding scientific research results in both clinical and basic studies. We also provide the training opportunities and supporting programs for all levels of hospital nearby. About 10 undergraduate students, post-graduate students and further training students are admitted to our department and study here each year.
