On Dec.6th, 2018, Prof. Dominique Declerck (Chair of the Department of Oral Health Sciences), Prof. Bart Van Meerbeek, and Prof. Wim Teughels from KU Leuven, Belgium, visited our hospital. On behalf of our hospital, Prof. Zhuan Bian (Dean of WHUSS) warmly welcomed them and had deep discussions on some issues, including talent training, scientific research cooperation and clinical teaching. Both sides expressed great expectation and confidence for future cooperation and exchange. Then, these three experts paid a visit to our clinical departments, teaching areas and central lab.
At the signing ceremony, Prof. Dominique Declerck gave a multidimensional presentation of the Department of Oral Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, KU Leuven, Belgium, covering historical development, scientific research and teaching, humane education, professional research areas and so on. Prof. Zhuan Bian concluded that the two parties have good corporation basis and strong desire to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with foreign countries, hoping for extensive collaboration with each other in the future. Subsequently, Prof. Zhuan Bian and Prof. Dominique Declerck signed the MOU on behalf of the two sides respectively, marking the beginning of the comprehensive cooperation between them in the field of medicine, education and research. After the signing ceremony, the three experts gave three high-level academic lectures for teachers and students present, and held academic discussions with some research groups like dental prosthesis, oral prevention, periodontal implantation, children's oral cavity.
KU Leuven, Belgium is one of the oldest universities in Europe and enjoys a high reputation in the world. Its dental ranking has always been among the highest in the world. The signing of the MOU with KU Leuven is a landmark in the international exchange affairs of our hospital. It is also an important measure for us to broaden the field of cooperation, improve the cooperation mechanism and speed up the pace of “Double World-classes" university project.
