At the invitation of Vice Dean Chen Zhi, Prof. Dean G. Tang from Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics, Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, NY, USA visited our hospital on Nov.1st ,2018. On behalf of our hospital, Prof. Chen Zhi warmly welcomed him.
In the afternoon, Prof. Tang delivered a wonderful speech titled Understanding and Targeting Cancer Cell Heterogeneity for our students and teachers in a rigorous but humorous way, making us understand the concept of the heterogeneity of prostate cancer stem cells and differentiated cells as well as the formulation of clinical specific targeted therapy strategies vividly and thoroughly. After the speech, he communicated deeply on some academic issues with Prof. Sun Zhijun and Prof. Chen Gang.
Prof. Tang is an excellent alumnus of Wuhan University, boasting master and doctor degree of oncobiology in Wuhan University and Wayne State University respectively. He worked as a professor in the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center for more than 10 years. At present, he is the chair of Department of Pharmacology & Therapeutics in Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, a member of AAAs, and a member of the review committee of many research institutes like NIH. Meanwhile, he is the expert introduced by the “Shanghai 1,000 Talents Plan” and “Pudong 100 Talents Plan”. With over 30 years’ experience in cancer research, both academic and industrial, he is also the director of Cancer Stem Cell Institute, Research Center for Translational Medicine, Dongfang Hospital, Tongji University. As a well-known expert in cancer stem cells and miRNA for cancer treatment, Prof. Tang is quite prolific, publishing more than 140 papers in Science, Cell, Nature Medicine, Cell Stem Cell.
