On October 11-13, 2017, Dr. Rena D 'souza, President-elect of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and Professor of University of Utah, USA, was invited to visit School of Stomatology Wuhan University and conduct academic activities. The dean Zhuan Bian and the vice dean Zhi Chen met Prof. D 'souza, and held in-depth discussions with her on various topics such as research cooperation, personnel exchange and development of the IADR Chinese Division.
In the afternoon of October 12, Prof. D 'souza gave a presentation entitled “Novel Protein Replacement Therapies Cure Craniofacial Defects in Mice”, which introduced the new protein replacement therapy in mouse models applied for the treatment of craniofacial hereditary diseases. The faculties and graduate students took part in the academic activity. After the speech, Prof. D 'souza visited some clinical departments and laboratories in our hospital and praised the research achievements of our school. She hoped to cooperate closely with our hospital.
Prof. D 'souza was engaged in the studies of craniofacial genetic and developmental diseases and mineralized tissues supported by a number of NIH funds. She received the Distinguished Scientist Award from the IADR. In recent years, Prof. D' souza dedicated to promoting professional career development for women academicians. Prof. D 'souza will be formally the President of the IADR, the world's largest dental research organization at general session to be held in London in 2018.
