In June 29th, Professor XiaoPing Chen (Academician of Chinese Academy of Science, Director of the Department of Surgery and Liver Surgery Center, Tongji Medical College & Hospital, Huazhong University of Science and Technology) was invited to School & Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, for academic exchanges. Professor Zhuan Bian, Zhi Chen, Cui Huang, Minquan Du, part of teachers, and graduate students participated in this exchange activity.
Academician Chen shared his life course in the past 50 years. In the speech, he showed the “Chen Style” surgery approach developed for liver, gallbladder, and pancreatic surgery including liver transplantation, hepatobiliary separation, and cholangiocarcinoma surgery. These innovative surgical methods have been highly recognized by domestic and foreign counterparts and reduced the mortality rate of patients in surgery to a large extent. In 2009, he successfully completed the famous liver separation surgery of the "runaway mother" who donated her liver to her son, and the whole process of this surgery was broadcast live on CCTV.
Recalling his medical life, Academician Chen stated, "surgery, no rehearsal, only live". He learned and worked in the hard environment, and applied the knowledge to clinical diagnosis and treatment. All of the scientific achievements were conducted focus on solving clinical and practical problems. It is of great importance to be drawn by all doctors for exploring the relationship between scientific research and medical treatment. Finally, he encouraged the young doctors of our hospital, “be a good person, do the good things, and be a good doctor !” Academician Chen's speech enlightened and inspired all of the attendant teachers and students.
