On May 16th, 2019, Prof. Xue-jun WEN from Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University presented an academic speech titled “Biomaterials for Biomedical Research and Biomedical Devices: What’s coming up?” He introduced Biomaterials with superior biocompatibility and high antimicrobial properties, providing a new method for controlling microbial infection. Besides, this speech also covered some advanced research results of many fields like injectable hydrogel, cell 3D culture and printing system, and new cell culture materials, and demonstrated wide applications of new materials in primary cell isolation, tissue engineering, organ regeneration and stem cell culture and preservation.
Prof. WEN serves as the William Goodwin Endowed Chair Professor and the director of Biomanufacturing Laboratory and Regenerative Medicine Laboratory in Virginia Commonwealth University as well. He has chaired and participated in more than 40 scientific research projects, with a total fund of more than 47 million US dollars, and published more than 100 academic papers. Also, he has been on the list of “Most Cited Chinese Researchers” in the field of biomedical engineering of Elsevier database for many times. Owing to his great achievements in his research field, he won the CAREER award of National Science Foundation in 2008 and was elected as a fellow of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering in 2012.
