During Jan. 21-22, Prof. Yang Chai, Ostrow Associate Dean of Research, University of Southern California (USC), came to visit our school and was warmly welcomed by a group of leaders of WHUSS. Chai earned his doctor of medicine degree in dentistry from Peking University before relocating to the United States. He completed his doctoral degree in craniofacial biology and his doctor of dental surgery degree at USC. In 2018, he was elected to the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). Engaged in study on craniofacial development and regeneration for a long time, he has published more than 100 academic papers in several international journals like Cell Stem Cell, Nature Cell Biology, Developmental Cell, Development. In view of his outstanding contribution in this field, after discussion by the Professor Committee of our hospital, it was unanimously agreed to award this expert as our "Honorary Professor" .
At the awarding ceremony, Dean Zhuan Bian presented Prof. Yang Chai with the certificate and medal of "Honorary Professor" of our college. Chai expressed his gratitude for our awarding and expectation of substantive cooperation with our college. After this ceremony, he delivered a high-level academic lecture to the teachers and students of our hospital.
Chai also visited our clinical departments, teaching areas and the central lab, and discussed several issues with our research group of oral genetics and development. Besides, Dean Zhuan Bian solicited suggestions on the future development strategy of oral craniofacial science of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
This visit of Chai also has important guiding significance for the construction of “Double World classes” in our hospital.
