On August 14-16, Prof. Brian O’Connell, Dean of the School of Dental Science,Trinity College Dublin paid a visit to our school, warmly welcomed by our leaders.

On the afternoon of August 15, a cordial meeting was held to welcome this professor. Dean Zhuan Bian gave a round introduction of our school to him. Vice Dean Zhi Chen and Deputy Director of Scientific Research Office Miao He also attended this meeting as well. Sequently, guided by our dean, he visited our school with great interest, speaking well of the development of WHUSS.

After the visit, this expert delivered a wonderful speech called Modern approaches to the management of bruxism. Centered on this disease, he deeply explained some basic knowledge, covering its classification, characteristics, diagnosis, evaluation methods, risk factors and some related management methods like current stimulation, occlusion, prosthodontic treatment. Besides, he introduced in detail the role and application prospect of Smart Splint in bruxism management and monitoring, which was developed by his team.

Prof. Brian O’Connell got his bachelor’ degree in dentistry from National University of Ireland and doctor’s degree in biochemistry from University of Rochester. Currently, he has published more than 80 papers, mainly focusing on Geriatric Stomatology with original views on the relationship between the dental health of the aged and their general health, bruxism and so on.
